Why Hug?

Hugging is a way for us to show our love for each other.

What is it about hugging that is so powerful? Somehow, simply having another person's arms around us can make us feel unconditionally accepted. People hug for many different reasons. Family and friends sometimes hug just to show the other person they care. They may hug a loved one that they haven't seen for a while. Or hug someone who will be leaving for a long period of time. Hugs are also given to comfort someone who is sad or to congratulate someone who has good news.

The gift of touch

Another way of communicating is through the gift of touch.

A good salesperson knows that touch helps establish rapport and a feeling of conncection. People who live alone, live longer and healthier lives if they have a pet to touch and care for. Babies in orphanages who are not picked up and held can literally die from lack of touch.

  1. We have become a dog-and-cat petting society. We give animals what human beings needs the most.
  2. The times when we are the most unlovable are the times when we need to be touched the most.
  3. Human beings have been known to die from lack of touch.
  4. When we touch another person, we make a connection.
  5. Hugging and being hugged causes the brain to release endorphins - chemicals which produce a natural "high"
  6. Opposites attract. It's not an accident when someone who has trouble touching is attracted to a person who is very "touchy-feely".
  7. Touching is a behaviour that can be learned. If you weren't raised in a family that touched, you need to learn this important skills now!
